Another shooting incident has been reported from the United States, several people were shot in Washington DC on Sunday, reportedly near the site of the Juneteenth music festival.
Police said a minor was suspected to have died, while three others were injured. A police officer was also among those injured in the firing incident. The search for the accused is on.
Addressing a press conference, Washington DC police said, “At this point 1 juvenile, it appears, is dead. 2 other civilians and 1 police officer have been injured. They are recovering.”
On its official handle, the police said in a tweet, “MPD is responding to a shooting incident in the area of ​​14th & U Street, NW in which several people including an MPD officer have been shot. 15th and media staging in U Street, NW. Chief Conti to provide media briefings.”
According to local media, the shooting took place at or near the site of a Juneteen music festival called “Moechela” at 14th and U Street.
The condition of the injured was not clear till the time of writing this news.
The incident, weeks after a shooting incident in Texas, sent shockwaves across the country and ignited a debate over gun laws. On May 24, 19 children were shot and killed by a gunman – a teenage boy – at an elementary school in Texas.
As incidents of gun violence continue to rise in the US, President Joe Biden has called for a ban on assault weapons to protect children and families or raise the age to buy them from 18 to 21.
“We need to ban assault weapons. … If we can’t, we should raise the age to buy them from 18 to 21. Ban high-capacity magazines. Strengthen background checks . Enforce safe storage law and red flag law. Repeal immunity from liability of gun manufacturers,” he said.
