Dev Anand spent 40 beautiful years of his life in it, but this bungalow, which was abandoned for a long time, is now razed to the ground. A 22-story building will come up here and with it the last trace of Dev Anand will disappear from this city forever.
Dev Anand, born on September 26, 1923 at Shakargarh in undivided Punjab, had built a bungalow in Juhu at a time when human activities were rare here. There used to be a fishing camp on Juhu beach, and when Dev Anand was bored with the noise of cinemas and the hustle and bustle of central Mumbai, he came to this bungalow there. This incident took place in 1950. Later, when film studios moved out of Mumbai city, most of the film work began in suburban Andheri. In this respect, this place was also suitable for Dev Anand.
But Dev Anand, who was used to living in solitude, did not like the growing crowd in Juhu. There was once a beautiful green park in front of his house. Dev Anand felt suffocated due to the absence of this park and construction of other bungalows there. The deal for the sold Juhu bungalow is said to be around Rs 400 crore. At the moment only the discussions are in the final phase and the paperwork still needs to be completed.
It is now believed that the main reason for the sale of the bungalow is the lack of an heir of Dev Anand in Mumbai. After his father’s death in 2011, his son Sunil Anand rarely comes here. He has set up his household in London. Dev Anand’s daughter Devina now lives in Ooty. With her mother Kalpana Karthik. After his marriage to Kalpana in 1954, Dev Anand lived in this bungalow with his two children for years. But now the heirs of this symbol want to escape his care.
