Construction of the $100 million, eight-story hospital will begin in the new Maruchidor CBD over the next few months after its development application is approved.
Maroochy Private Hospital is described by its developer as an epicenter for surgical research and innovation, with anchor tenants including the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and the leading international orthopedic company, Medacta.
Barwon Investment Partners presented the DA to Economic Development Queensland, which oversees the Maroochydore Priority Development Sector.
The state-of-the-art development will provide a much-needed service to the people living in Marouchidor and the wider region and will focus on the management of musculo-skeletal conditions.
The hospital component of the facility will have a variety of surgical specialties along with ancillary health services.
There will also be a comprehensive pain management, sports medicine and allied health offering.
The experience for visitors, staff and patients will be world-class including high-end amenities and premium work spaces, as well as a roof top employee relaxation area.
USC Vice Chancellor and President Professor Helen Bartlett says the university’s collaboration with Medacta will ensure this new medical facility will be a center of excellence in clinical care, innovation, education and research.
“Our teaching and research activities at the center will be linked with our degrees in medical sciences, occupational therapy, health sciences and our other allied health programmes. This will help provide better health outcomes for Sunshine Coast residents and more opportunities for our researchers and students,” she says.
Tom Patrick, head of healthcare at Barwon, says the company is excited that DA has been approved and development can begin.
“It is wonderful to be part of a development that will serve the people of Maruchidor and surrounding communities for their health care needs, while also encouraging local employment to fill many new roles,” says Mr. Patrick .
“Barwon’s investment in the new Maroochydore CBD should prove to be a valuable one with the development, once completed, reflecting a truly value-based healthcare model.”
Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson welcomed the approval of the Barwon Health Facility, which he says will be a significant addition to Australia’s only greenfield city centre, Maroochydor.
“The investment by Barwon is yet another sign of confidence in our new Maroochydore City Center and adds to the growing momentum and investor interest generated by this project. With Walker Corporation to drive development of Maroochydore City Center In addition to our partnership, Barwon Healthcare will continue to expand the diversity of facilities, services and opportunities within the city centre”, says Cr Jamieson.
