A total of 16 teams, including CN Las Palmas, will participate in the Spanish Women’s Cadet Water Polo Championships for Clubs, which will be held from 20 to 23 July at the Las Palmas Swimming Club facilities. A sports event which will feature the best teams in the women cadet category from across the country.
The championship, which is the first to be held in Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands, was presented this Tuesday morning with the assistance of the Sports Councilor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Francisco Castellano; Manuel López, Director General of Sports, Government of the Canary Islands; the President of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, Fernando Carpeña; and Pedro Estevez, president of CN Las Palmas.
Francisco Castellano explained that “from the Department of Sports we are very pleased that this Women’s Cadet Water Polo Spanish Championship is being held, which is going to be held on the island for the first time in the history of this sport in Gran Canaria. And in the Canarias. We hope that from July 20 to 23, Gran Canaria will become the open hotel and the hospitality that characterizes us Canarians, hosting the 16 national teams that will play in this competition. We wish CN Las Palmas, whose Together we have worked hand in hand to make this a reality, the greatest success in organizing and celebrating this event”.
Manuel López thanked and congratulated CN Las Palmas for organizing this women’s water polo championship. “Today we are fortunate to present this Spanish Championship, as it has all the ingredients to be a great competition. We are convinced that CN Las Palmas is going to be a great organizer and that we are going to have a great competition. It is the first time that it is held in the Canary Islands and we hope that the Canarian teams will achieve a very good result”, highlighted the General Director of Sport of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Fernando Carpeña pointed out that “the celebration of this championship promotes the expansion of women’s aquatic sports at the national level, especially water polo.” Furthermore, he highlighted the “good work of the host club”, which was the only one of the islanders to participate in all state age group competitions last season.
“For the first time in history we are going to achieve that 16 places are completed in the championships, we are supporting the fact that there is a balanced regional distribution,” emphasized Carpeña, who added that “Royal Spanish Swimming The Federation has it’s ambition that the Canary Islands, in its various aquatic activities, take a step forward and this is achieved with the work that you are doing as a club.
Finally, Pedro Estevez explained that “the main thing for the club is to make visible a minority sport like water polo, to make women more visible and to include the convalescing power that they have through sport today.” With this tournament, we want to continue to bet on a brand, a grassroots sports betting brand, the brand of Gran Canaria and the brand of this city.
The Spanish Women’s Cadet Water Polo Championship, as already indicated, will have the participation of 16 national teams, whose groups will be drawn according to the results of the last edition of the Cadet Championships and according to the group structure rules. In total, 36 games will be played, and the competition formula consists of: First leg, four games per day will be played on two playing fields, totaling 12 games. The second phase will consist of semi-finals and finals, with a total of 24 matches.
In addition to gold, silver and bronze medals for the top three finishers in the championship, prizes will be awarded to the best goalkeeper; best player; women’s fair play; and best fan.
