Police have arrested a suspect 17 years after the murder of a German tourist in Australia. Authorities say they arrested a 42-year-old man from a home in Western Australia on Tuesday. He should be handed over to the authorities in the eastern state of New South Wales.
In February 2005, Simone Strobel, a then 25-year-old teacher from Bavaria, disappeared from a camp in the east coast city of Lismore, where she had stayed with her boyfriend and other acquaintances. His body was found six days later at a nearby sports ground.

Despite a thorough investigation, which involved both Australian and Bavarian police, the murder remained unsolved for a long time.
Two years ago, authorities in New South Wales offered a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender. In 2014, Bavarian authorities promised a reward of up to 10,000 euros for information in the case. (AFP/OKB)
