2 escape after crashing stolen vehicle shots were fired from, town of Madison police say

According to Madison City Police, the two men escaped on foot and are wanted after a stolen car crash.

Shortly after 5 a.m., officers were sent to the South Sunnyvale Lane area with a report of a white car that someone had fired from, Chief Scott Gregory said in a statement.

City officials have contacted Madison, Fitchburg and Monona police and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office for help with a response, including monitoring possible escape routes, Gregory said.

Officers arrived at the scene at 5:09 am and saw a white car stolen in Janesville. According to Gregory, the driver tried to bypass police cars and crashed into a police car in the occupied city of Madison and then took off before crashing into North Sunnyvale Lane.

The officer chased the passenger on foot but lost them. According to Gregory, the driver also escaped on foot after crashing a white car, and the police were also unable to catch the man, even with the help of a police dog.

The abandoned stolen car was searched and a loaded Ruger 10-22 long rifle was found, as well as two loaded 9mm magazines, Gregory said, adding that police believe the driver or passenger may still be armed with a 9mm pistol. mm.
