Tata Punch has revived the micro-SUV segment in India. Punch, once considered a dead segment, is now approaching 10-11k sales per month. But Tata knows that he has to keep updating to keep Punch in the lead. So what new updates can Tata punch in 2022? In today’s article we discuss exactly this.

Tata Motors missed a golden opportunity by not offering a diesel engine during the launch. So will Tata give it a diesel engine now? We certainly hope so. Last year, a test mule of Punch Diesel was seen in testing. Tata may offer its 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine to the punch like the Altroz. This engine is capable of producing 88bhp and 200Nm of torque. We expect Tata to offer this only with a manual gearbox option.

Another new engine Tata can add to the punch is the i-Turbo engine that it uses on the Altroz. Currently, the Punch comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, but this engine is known to be sluggish. So, Tata may add a 1.2-litre i-turbo engine to the punch. This engine is capable of producing 108bhp and 140Nm of torque.
Tata Punch 2022 – DCA Gearbox
So will Tata also give the Punch a DCA gearbox from the Altroz? We definitely think so. Currently, the Punch comes with a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Even though Tata has tuned the AMT gearbox quite well, it still cannot match the smoothness of the DCT gearbox. Another thing to consider is that the Punch comes with the same engine, so it makes sense for Tata to offer a DCA gearbox for the same.
