(CNN) — Three people were killed and at least four were injured in a shooting in Los Angeles early Saturday, the city’s fire department said. This is the fourth shooting in California in a week.
A spokesman said the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call for help at 2:35 a.m. on a residential street northwest of downtown.
The fire department said rescuers found three people dead and two injured who were taken to hospital. The spokesman said two others took themselves to the hospital.
CNN affiliate KCAL said the shooting occurred on the outskirts of Beverly Hills in the Beverly Crest community. Three victims were shot while standing inside a car and the other four outside a house.
Police said the first call was a report of “assault with a deadly weapon”.
The condition of all four people admitted to the hospital is said to be serious.
A motive has not been disclosed.
A tough week for California
It was the fourth mass shooting in California since January 21, when a gunman entered a dance studio in Monterey Park in the Greater Los Angeles area, killing 11 people.
Seven people died on Monday at Half Moon Bay farms in northern California.
Hours later, five people were shot in Oakland. An 18-year-old youth died.
