Latino families have to go to the pantry, pull out the bottles of Fabuloso brand cleaning fluid they bought last December and January, and throw them in the trash without emptying them. They are a health hazard.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reported today that 4.9 million bottles of the product have been recalled because they may contain bacteria and can cause serious infections.
The Fabuloso brand is popular in Hispanic markets, though the tainted stacks were also sold on Amazon and other websites as well as at stores including Dollar General, Family Dollar, Walmart and Home Depot from December 2022 through January. Several sizes of the Fabuloso were recalled in scents including lavender, lemon and ocean.
Fabuloso’s maker, Colgate-Palmolive, said in a bulletin that the preservative was not added during the manufacturing process “at the expected level” and that “insufficient” amounts of the preservative could have allowed bacteria to grow.
Bacteria may be present in the removed fluid pseudomonas aeruginosa why pseudomonas fluorescens Which are organisms that are very present in land and water. However, people with weakened immune systems, who use medical instruments, or who have an underlying lung condition are at risk of developing a serious infection that may require medical treatment.
The bacteria can enter the body through inhalation, through the eyes, or through a scratch or cut on the skin. Healthy people usually do not become infected by coming in contact with the bacteria.
according to an article in new York Times, Colgate-Palmolive advised people to stop using the recalled cleaner and not to empty the bottles before throwing them away.
Colgate-Palmolive said about 3.9 million of the recalled bottles were not sold.
Not all Fabuloso products are being recalled. Individuals who purchased the recalled bottles should contact Colgate-Palmolive to request a refund or free replacement product and to view the exact list of recalled products.
