Breakdown

This is the area where the Badgers have the most to prove. The players who produced most of last season’s scoring output are gone. There is no quick answer to the question of who will increase their production.

Veterans Tarek Baker, Roman Ahkan and Brock Caufield are set to start the season as top line and power play roles. Keep an eye out for the big trio of Carson Bantal, Dominic Marsh and Ryder Donovan to see if they provide some physicality to create offensive chances.

A handful of options are on the table, including Baker and Owen Lindmark as centers and finding the right mix there – new players Liam Malmquist and Caden Brown, sophomore Sam Stange and senior Marsh getting reps in the position – is crucial.

breakout potential

Mathieu de Saint Phalle should get more chance to show his offensive instincts after taking on a defensive role as a freshman this season, when he posted just two goals and eight points in 31 games.

which number

18 – Times last season a Badgers forward scored two or more goals, the most in the country. However, this season there were only five by the returning players: two by Ahnken and one each by Lindmark, Stange and Donovan.
