In the days leading up to the UN Climate Conference in Glasgow, an increasing number of countries have announced commitments or announced earlier dates to phase out coal in the coming decades.

At the same time, world leaders need to scale up clean energy activities as they commit to reducing fossil fuel emissions. Here are six priorities that can help pave the way for reducing emissions:

1. Wider adoption of carbon pricing and markets
The price of carbon, high enough to push pollutants to cut their emissions, reflects the cost of harm caused by greenhouse gas emissions that companies are not currently paying for, such as climate change, crop damage, and rising health costs. …

2. Focus on sectors that are difficult to decarbonize.
Shipping, trucking, and industries such as aluminum, cement and steel are difficult places to cut emissions, in part because they have not yet tested available fossil fuel substitutes.

3. Connect China and other emerging economies
With more than half of the world’s coal consumed in China, his actions stand out, although other emerging economies such as India, Indonesia and Vietnam are also critical.

4. Focus on innovation
Supported by innovation, advanced renewable energies and electric vehicles are much faster than expected. Perhaps more.

5. Priority of green financing
More than 160 banks and investment groups are participating in a coalition that has agreed to pressure high-emission industries, linking lending decisions to the goal of achieving global zero emissions by 2050.

6. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions with a short lifespan.
Methane, a greenhouse gas many times more powerful than carbon dioxide, does not stay in the atmosphere for that long, so stopping emissions may have faster climatic benefits while reducing carbon emissions.
