6-cylinder turbo engines

The future for Kawasaki

We know that Kawasaki is more than a motorcycle manufacturer, because the brand has in the large conglomerate ‘Heavy Industries’ a whole range of parts, such as the aeronautical, space, maritime, and so on. The River Mark brand knows that the future is not just electric and has patented 2 new engines for the future, and this They are 6 cylinder turbo engine.

One of them is powered by gasoline and the other is powered by hydrogen.. These engines are derived from the developments, studies and tests carried out from the unique supercharged 4-cylinder engine found in the Kawasaki H2R, which sets a standard in terms of performance and quality.

Ready to fly

Ready to fly! It is important to mention that these new engines will be implemented in the aeronautical industry, but wait, do not lose heart, because from then on Kawasaki will study new engines for motorcycles in parallel, even if they cannot maintain the 6 -cylinder configuration, they will serve as a platform for testing turbo technology (remember that the H2 engine is not turbocharged, but supercharged) that will allow Kawasaki to have compact machines, with good performance and that meet the high standards of environmental regulations European and Japanese.

The program has 2 phases: In 2024, testing of the prototype 6-cylinder gasoline turbo engine will begin, it has some official figures, the cubic capacity is 2070 CC with the capacity to deliver a power of 380 horsepower at 8500 RPM with the possibility of operation up to 30,000 feet high (about 9000 meters). The engine is expected to be internationally certified by 2030.

As for the hydrogen engine, it will start its prototype tests in 2027 and be certified in 2035. During this time Kawasaki will continue to work in parallel with its hydrogen engine for motorcycles.

Top Gun, Kawasaki and the GPZ900R

We saw the relationship between aeronautics, cinema and Kawasaki motorcycles in the “Top Gun” films with the GPZ900R as the protagonist of the 1986 film, and then the Kawasaki H2R in the sequel of 2022. Kawasaki has already reported that in 2024 plans to launch a new motorcycle, informally named ‘GPZ900R Maverick’ because Kawasaki has already registered many similar names; We’ll have to wait until next year, or maybe sooner if Kawasaki gives us a performance preview. Milan EICMA which will happen in November 2023.
