7 New York Children’s Hospitals Ranked Among the Best in the Country: US News

The ranking highlights the top 50 centers in 10 pediatric specialties: Cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; neonatology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; bone disease; Pulmonology and lung surgery; and urology.

For the second year in a row, US News provided an expanded ranking of hospitals by both state and multi-state regions.

In New York, the following hospitals were included:

  • New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell, New York, Ranked No. 1, Ranked in 10 Pediatric Specialties
  • Cohen Children’s Medical Center, New Hyde Park, Ranked No. 2, Ranked 9 in Pediatric Specialties
  • Children’s Hospital in Montefiore, New York, ranked number 3, ranked 3 in pediatric specialties
  • Hasenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, New York, Ranked No. 3, Ranked 3 in Pediatric Specialties
  • Mount Sinai Cravis Children’s Hospital, New York, Ranked No. 3, Ranked 3 in Pediatric Specialties
  • Learner Children’s Pavilion-Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, ranked 1st in pediatric specialty
  • MSK KIDS at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, ranked 1st in pediatric specialty

This year, US News included a measure for equality, diversity and inclusion in its methodology. It was also less dependent on expert opinion in most specialties.

Ten hospitals were named for honor rolls — a distinction given to pediatric centers that “provide exceptionally high quality care across multiple specialties,” US News said in a news release.

Boston Children’s Hospital claimed the top spot in the honor roll for the ninth year in a row. Additionally, it ranked as the top children’s hospital in Massachusetts as well as the No. 1 hospital in five out of 10 specialties considered by US News. Here’s the honor roll:

  1. Texas Children’s Hospital
  2. Boston Children’s Hospital
  3. UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh
  4. MUSC Children’s Heart Network of South Carolina
  5. New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell

Pediatric Cancer

  1. Dana-Farber / Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center
  2. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  3. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
  4. Texas Children’s Hospital
  5. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Neonatology

  1. Children’s National Hospital
  2. Boston Children’s Hospital
  3. Texas Children’s Hospital
  4. UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh
  5. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, San Francisco and Oakland

US News collected clinical data from nearly 200 pediatric centers across the country, looking at measures such as patient outcomes, including mortality and infection rates; As well as including health equity, availability of clinical resources, and compliance with best practices.

Also, over 100 pediatricians and other experts provided input through methodological working groups. North Carolina-based research and consulting firm RTI International collected and analyzed the data. Read more about the workings of US News.
