The name of a CRPF officer is under discussion after the Naxalite attack in K Bijapur district of Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. These are Nalin prabhat. Nalin is currently an IG Naxal operation. He was a DIG 11 years ago when a Naxalite attack took place in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. 76 soldiers were sacrificed in that attack. The sacrifice of 22 soldiers in the attack on Saturday (April 3, 2021) in Bijapur district has been confirmed. 21 are missing.
Many questions are arising after this attack. Despite the attack, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been criticized for being busy in campaigning in Assam. Also questions are being raised about Nalin Prabhat’s efficiency and kindness to him. There are also allegations of intelligence failure. The question is being raised whether the information system failed due to which the Naxalites movement could not get the right information or the jawans were trapped by giving the information in a planned manner by the Naxalites.
Solid answers to these questions will be found only after investigation. But it is a fact that after the Naxalite attack in Dantewada in 2010, two other officers including Prabhat were removed from their posts. All of them were accused of sending soldiers into the jungle without negligence and adequate protection. 76 soldiers were sacrificed in this Naxalite attack in Tadmetla, Dantewada.
Naxalite attack of Tadmetla
On 6 April 2010, 150 jawans of Chintalnar camp at Tadmetla in Sukma district went out for area sanitization on the orders of DIG Nalin Prabhat. The detachment returning after sanitization was ambushed by the Naxalites. 76 soldiers were sacrificed in this attack. It was estimated that around 1000 Naxalites surrounded the jawans. It is considered to be the biggest attack in the history of Naxalite problem in India.
Investigation of CRPF and Ministry of Home Affairs
After this terrible attack in Tadmetla, the CRPF set up a Court of Inquiry and the Home Ministry constituted the E. Rammohan Committee to investigate the matter. It was told in the report of the inquiry committee that the CRPF’s wireless was present with the Naxalites, due to which they had full news of the movement of the jawans. Prabhat and other officers in the report of the inquiry committee for the failure of ‘command and control’ and the violation of the ‘Standard Operation Procedure’ Guilty Was found DIG Nalin Prabhat and two other officers AK Bisht and Sanjeev Bangade were removed from the post after the CRPF’s Court of Inquiry and the Rammohun Committee investigated and were also transferred.
What happened this time
Even after the encounter on Saturday, it is being told in media reports that the Naxalites had deliberately conveyed the information of their movement to the authorities. In the inquiry after the Tarmetla attack, Prabhat said that the deputy commandant sent along could not do his job properly. But now he is himself the IG of Naxal operation. In such a situation, the entire responsibility of intelligence was on him.
Nalin Prabhat is a 1992 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. Of the president Gallantry award Has also been found. The award was given for the arrest of four terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir during 2008. However, the interesting fact is that even at that time, he was questioned for giving him this award citing his previous records.
