On tonight’s episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, viewers were emotional as they watched one of the final appearances of the late, great comedian Sean Lock, with the program paying tribute to him at the end.

The show saw Lock, who died last August at the age of 58 after suffering from cancer, team up with Harry Hill against Jon Richardson and Rosie Jones.

Jimmy Carr resumed his hosting duties, while maths whizz Rachel Riley and word expert Susie Dent were also present, in addition to Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed in Dictionary Corner as Mr Swallow.

Prior to the episode airing on Channel 4, 8 Out of 10 Cats announced on Twitter that it would mark one of Lock’s ‘last appearances on the show’.

While it’s currently uncertain how many more installations he may appear in, the end of this episode saw him achieve glory, as he guessed the final conundrum ‘UNDERDOGS’ before Jon had a chance… despite still losing on the total score.

As the credits started rolling, a tribute to Lock appeared on screen, with a picture of him alongside the message: ‘In loving memory of comedy legend Sean Lock, 1963 – 2021.’

Several viewers expressed how heart-wrenching they found it watching Lock in one of his last appearances, with others saying that it was fitting for him to win the conundrum.

‘If that was Sean Lock’s final episode, we should all cheer that he got the final conundrum! Comedy genius,’ one person wrote.

‘So very apt for Sean Lock to get the conundrum on his final ever #CatsDoesCountdown appearance. A bittersweet episode,’ another said.

Someone else said that while it brought them ‘joy’ to see the comedian on their TV screen, they also felt ‘sadness’ over it being one of his final episodes.

‘Go on Sean Lock getting the conundrum on what would be his last ever appearance on the show!! He will be always missed and for the comic genius he was!’ someone else stated.

When it was announced that Lock had died, a statement was released by Off the Kerb Productions that read: ‘It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock.

‘He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family.’

Describing the entertainer as ‘one of Britain’s finest comedians’, the statement said that ‘his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy’.

‘Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children,’ it continued. ‘Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him. We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time.’

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown is available to watch on All 4.
