Violent Domestic Attack in Carmen de Apicalá Leaves Woman in Critical Condition

NWN News: A brutal attack has shaken the quiet town of Carmen de Apicalá, Tolima after a 31-year-old man is alleged to have stabbed his 24-year-old partner at least 30 times in a vicious attack. Attempted Murder Escapes Under Cover of Dark

At about 1 a.m., the suspect went back to the dwelling he shared with the victim. In fact, the quarrel turned into a blaze and, without any notice, the man started a frantic attack using a sharp object. Soon, the cries of the woman broke the silence of the night while informing the neighbors of what was happening. The man proceeded with the violence until he realized the closeness of the police patrol. He tried to escape from the scene and was apprehended by local police just a few minutes later.

Cops Arrest Attacker; Seize Weapons

Now that the attacker is captured, he will be charged with attempted femicide. The weapon of aggression was retained and referred to the respective authorities. “The suspect and the weapon was put into the care of the competent authority for the alleged crime of attempted femicide,” said the Tolima Police Department. In just a short time, the man would have to answer before a judge by means of a virtual hearing in order to define his judicial status.

Victim Fights for Her Life in Intensive Care

The victim was then taken to the nearest health center and later transferred to the San Rafael Hospital in Espinal. She is alive but remains in critical condition due to her injuries and has to remain in the intensive care unit. While her chances for recovery remain unknown, emergency services surely helped stabilize her.

Community Leaders Are Outspoken on the Incident

Local community leaders and officials have responded to the event with indignation and worry. In response, the regional commander of the police, Colonel Libardo Fabio Ojeda Eraso, condemned the violence: “The National Police strongly rejects this type of action against our women.” Secretary of Government for Carmen de Apicalá Juan Vicente Espinoza told the press that this is not the first time violence between the two has erupted: “This case has been reported several times because the man had already physically assaulted the woman,” he added, pointing out a pattern of domestic abuse that has been going on without being checked.

After the incident, the Tolima Police Department announced that a special “purple patrol” is taking care of women being targeted in similar practices. Distressed women may dial the emergency line 155 to get connected with local authorities.
