Santo Domingo.- A conflict has come to light between Environment Minister, Miguel Serra Hatton, and leaders of the government’s Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
The reason is a statement by this official to a television program that he has been forced to dismiss about 600 people from the environment who were not doing any work.
Sierra Hatton, who was appointed Minister of Environment and Natural Resources last July after the murder of Orlando Jorge Mera, said that there were also people who were charging more than a million pesos to be in the service of a communicator.
Although he did not mention the name of the latter, a rumor has spread on social networks that it produces a famous television talk show and is a relative of the late minister George Mera.
Pacheco’s angry reaction
The statement provoked an immediate reaction from Alfredo Pacheco, president of the Chamber of Deputies and a high-level leader of the PRM, which has deep roots in the National District.
In messages on Twitter, Pacheco defined Sierra Hatton as “a theoretician without a service record who deserves respect”.
“What I find irresponsible of Miguel Sierra Hatton’s statements is that you have to cover up the noise of incompetence and lack of management of the ministry. It is that theory is one thing and practice is very different”, he said.
Pacheco expressed regret that there is not a single PRM member on the environmental leadership team, and that some people who work at this state agency are treated unfairly.
“You Sierra Hatton is a theorist without a service record who deserves respect or admiration. The abuser enters the cookie for those who cannot defend themselves; his time will come,” he insisted.
