Natasha Lyonne shines in this brilliant follow-up to legendary titles like “Colombo” and “Murder Wrote”
We have become accustomed to all major releases, both television and film, being released worldwide, but there are titles that are taking longer than necessary to release in Spain. One of the most recent cases is that of “Poker Face”, one of the best series of this year 2023 which debuted last January in the United States but was only available in our country today, September 15, as it finally appears in the SkyShowtime catalog.
Created by Rian Johnson Director of films like “Daggers in the Back” or “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” who uses unforgettable series like “A Murder Wrote” or “Colombo” as great references, “Poker Face” is the director. A real treat based on, but not limited to, the mystery of the week format (Although there would be nothing wrong with that).
Essential
“Poker Face” tells the story of Charlie, a woman with the incredible ability to recognize when someone is lying, something that will soon land her in trouble, first with the casino where she works, causing her to have to escape to stay alive, and then with the crimes she encounters along the way. This means that each of the episodes can shine individually with the respective case, but at the same time the big common thread that was established in the first chapter gradually develops.
Another great virtue of “Poker Face” is the work of Natasha Lyonne Like Charlie, as she is full of charisma as an unlikely detective whose only real goal is to remain unnoticed and left alone. However, this type of superpower causes her to become embroiled in a variety of problems. She will be very well accompanied, as the work of the cast, which features many familiar faces, is impeccable.
This care is also transferred to the visual part, exploiting all the possibilities of the digital format, making “Poker Face” seem practically cinematic in each of the ten episodes of the first season. Johnson only directs three of them, but the rest are very involved and in none of them are there really any significant ups and downs depending on who is behind the camera on that occasion.
Currently, Skyshowtime has released the first two episodes in Spain and will release another one every week from now on.
