Tensions between Russia and the United States have been increasing over the past few weeks. If the Russian-Ukrainian war is the center of all geopolitical disputes, now the tensions are also moving to the Arctic because of the new movement of the North American region.
The reason for this new event is the arrival of the aircraft that will bring the American USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest in the world, to Norway, with the purpose of conducting maneuvers with the Armies of the Nordic country, which involve 150 aircraft from 14 countries in the arctoa as of May 29
The position of the United States was not liked at all in the Kremlin, which demanded explanations through its embassy in Norway, stating that “there are no problems in the north that require a military solution, and no problems in which foreign intervention is necessary.” NATO is also a border with Russia, both on the Barents Sea and on land.
Russia interprets these movements as direct threats to its territory, since the Russian presence in the Arctic is no less important, since it has three million square kilometers where about 2.5 million Russians live, which means 40% of the total population. The Arctic world, which is why Russia considers it to be his “home”.
It is also an important pin because 25% of the world’s oil and gas reserves are found there. From these it appears that the conflict is due to his power by the principal powers.
It’s not the first time it’s happened
It was reported from the United States that Oslo will be the first port of call in a program that will last about six months, a good part of which will be spent in the northern seas, according to the commander of the Navy, Brian Metcalf. .
The meaning of the presence of the US in this closure is especially important now because of the armed conflict in Ukraine, although it should be remembered that the country led by Biden has been this type of maneuvers with vehicles since December 2021, with the US. intelligence detected the movements of Russian forces preparing for the invasion of Ukraine.
On this occasion, the carrier in question was the USS Harry S. Truman, which was eventually requested by the Pentagon to continue on its planned route through the Suez Canal. After reaching his destination, Gerard Ford captured the USS.

The Norwegian defense minister justifies this presence, stating that “this is an expression of our close relationship with the United States of America and demonstrates the collective will of defense and deterrence”.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is 333 meters long and has a displacement of 100,000 tons with a nuclear propulsion system. It is the newest ship in the US Navy and can accommodate up to 4,500 crew members, 90 fighters and helicopters on board.
This vision will take place at the time when the “Mirror Mirror 2023” maneuvers are carried out in the North Atlantic Ocean, with the presence of thirteen NATO countries.
