andro simone, who would win and medal as part of the national bowling team, passed away on Sunday night after battling type four cancer.
36-year-old athlete, son of former head of the photography department new day, Andy Simonet, and Lucy Ardine, had already gone through a similar situation in 2017 when they were diagnosed with colon cancer, which they had managed to overcome.
as the representative of the country in Central American and Caribbean Games Mayaguez 2010, Simonet received a gold medal in the teacher category and second in the shortlist, along with Israel Hernandez and Gabriel Sánchez. Similarly, the team event hung the bronze medals with Hernández and Sanchez and with Francisco Colón, Bruno Diaz and Luis Rodriguez.
In 2013 he finished fourth per team at the World Bowling Championships held in Nevada. This result helped him to be accepted into Weber International University in Florida. This educational institution is famous for its bowling equipment.
In 2017, and after begging his doctors to give him a chance, he represented Puerto Rico again at the World Championships, finishing ninth in the trio of modalities alongside Hernández and Cristian Azcona.
He took a team gold medal at the 2018 Barranquilla Central Americans.
