AUDI A3 E-TRON IN 2017 OR ANY NAME
The new vehicle that Audi has already been preparing will be the model that will serve as the entry level in the visible German manufacturer, according to sources close to the German company itself. A few days ago, Audi CEO Markus Duesmann announced an electric entry model “below the Q4 E-Tron” at the company’s press conference. For his part, the head of technology Oliver Hoffmann was more specific, since this model will be unprecedented below the Q4 and the “A3” segment.
Although the information was released by some key managers of the firm, the official name of this new car was not shared, but everything indicates that it could be called the A3 E-Tron.
From a technical point of view, this new purely electric compact vehicle will not be based on the VW Group MEB platform, but on a new architecture known by the acronym SSP (Scalable Systems Platform). In this way, the new vehicle in question will be designed with an 800-volt electric architecture, so it will admit large powers up to 270 kW, which in turn will reduce battery recharging times (the MEB platform has a 400 V architecture and is therefore compatible with lower load powers).
With an 800 CV architecture, if the new electric vehicle was connected to an ultra-fast station for about ten minutes, it would have charged enough energy to travel about 100 km.
In terms of battery type, with this new SSP platform a maximum autonomy of up to 700 km has already been announced, a significantly greater measure compared to almost all electric vehicles on the market.
The range of this mysterious electric vehicle with compact dimensions from Audi will have at least two types of bodywork: on the one hand, a five-door sports car that should respond to the name Sportback; and on the other hand, together with a more useful and spacious component with a door or sedan-type body.
As usual in the range of purely electric vehicles, this new compact model from Audi can have versions with one motor (most affordable transmissions) or with more than one motor (one per axle), resulting in more powerful variants. which will be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system.
