The Athanor de Rivas Orchestra defies the course to the rhythms of swing jazz with the concert ‘Rhapsody in Blue, A Night in New York’, transporting the audience to the rhythmic 30s of the last century , and which it continues to vibrate.
This is a big band-style dance music show, featuring classic swing jazz repertoire, rhythmic and danceable music, and an eye-catching staging: three vocalists and instrumental soloists (Saturday, June 3, 7:30 p.m., Pilar Auditorium Bardem, 8 euros).
Soloists played a major role in swing music performed by big bands. But many works in this genre were composed for music at a time when this genre was the kingship of cinema.
“That’s why we’ll have three singers’ voices for the occasion,” he explains from the instrumental group.
“Swing music emerged in the United States in the 1920s as a style of jazz and became one of the most popular music styles starting in the 1930s. George Gershwin, with his work ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, inaugurated a musical style and aesthetic that was created “with elements of American music such as blues, Afro-American spirituals and jazz”, Athanor specifies.
La Orquesta will feature works by Gershwin, Kander, Benny Goodman, Bart Howard, Percy Mayfield or Louis Prima.
The Athanor Orchestra was formed in 2004 with the aim of revitalizing the musical life of Rivas Vasimadrid and contributing to making symphonic orchestral music known.
Currently it has become an orchestra with a staff of over 50 musicians under the direction of Manuel Donoso.
