A Royal Caribbean cruise rescues 17 Cubans stranded at sea

Miami, January 15. A Royal Caribbean cruise ship headed to the Bahamas rescued a group of 17 Cubans who were stranded at sea, the US firm said.

The Miami, Florida-based firm said in a statement Saturday that the Liberty of the Seas cruise ship encountered “a small drifting vessel calling for help.” ,

Following the rescue, the crew received medical attention before turning the rafters over to the US Coast Guard, Royal Caribbean.

The group said they had been at sea for “weeks”, cruise passenger and rescue witness Josh Levine told local channel WPTV.

“Honestly, my heart breaks for them. To be at sea for 15 or 16 days trying to flee your country in search of a better life, you have to go through a lot,” Mark told the outlet. Jackson.

Earlier this month, the crew of two tourist cruises covering routes in the Caribbean rescued 24 migrants who were aboard fragile boats seeking to reach the coast of Florida (USA).

Florida has reported a notorious increase in recent weeks in the arrival of immigrants, mostly from Cuba and Haiti, as well as the interception of ships off its shores.

On Friday, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) indicated that more than 5,200 migrants had arrived in the 306 landings in this southern state since August of last year, with a total of 8,400 undocumented immigrants held at repatriation seas.
