A mother who stabbed her 6-year-old daughter to death with 80 blows after a cocktail of cannabis, GHB and antipsychotics has dropped her murder trial, pleading guilty to a reduced charge of murder.

“I killed my daughter. I know I did the worst thing in the world,” concluded Stephanie Brossoit, shortly after her arrest in July 2020 in front of her residence in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
The trial of a 39-year-old woman accused of second-degree murder was to begin this Monday at the Royal Court. But more importantly, in the room of the relatives of little Maélie Brossoit-Nogueira, the accused pleaded guilty to murder on the spot, thus avoiding the risk of life in prison.

According to the summary, Brossoit shared custody of the child with his father. However, if he was accused of using drugs and the Department of Youth Protection (DPJ) had initiated an investigation, the woman could ensure that her son continues.
“The DPJ’s final report concluded that Maélie is at risk,” the summary states.

According to the analysis of the crime scene, the attack began in the room of the accused. Armed with two knives, she followed her son to other places in the hospital until the little boy took refuge in the bathroom.
“He’s dying,” said the 6-year-old boy loud enough for the next person to hear his words.
At about the same time Brossoit broke down the door to prepare for his daughter.

“The autopsy of the young victim reveals that 80 wounds were caused by knives before,” said Me Lapierre.
Psychosis
Changed by the neighbor, the police did not wait to reach the scene. But it was already too late: Brossoit arrived and cried for help.
“Quick! Quick! Help me! Help me, I’m in psychosis!” then he cried out to the defendant.
During his transfer to the hospital, Brossoit made many statements, repeatedly repeating that he had killed his daughter.

The grandmother of the child, Eugenia Augusta, remembered the morning of the tragedy, she wanted to keep her granddaughters. But when Brossoit insisted, he took the boy home, accompanied by his father.
“I asked for a kiss, Maelie said to me, ‘You’re coming to get me,’ and she gave her daddy a hug.”
The victim’s father, Steve Augusto-Nogueira, was present in court. With tears in his eyes, he did not want to tell the letter at once. However, she requested that the ban on sharing her daughter’s identity be lifted, which Judge Yvan Poulin of the Superior Court of Quebec accepted.
