At the moment, it is an idea formed in the imagination of its promoters, with the company Bierzo Natura pulling the car, but the Council of the City of Toreno is committed to it and the participation of San Miguel de Langre (Berlanga) is necessary too. , the district that owns a good portion of the land. There is a project for the surroundings of the Alinos industrial area if there is investment behind it and it is already well defined. It is very ambitious and attractive and the future environmental recovery of the landfill will greatly benefit from this projection.
‘Active Escandal’ is the name of the idea that suggests a “different adventure” with a well-defined center: the mine of Escandal, which can be visited, will be a tourist resource. “The mine is fully equipped and with a minimum investment many activities can be carried out inside it,” guarantee the developers of the idea with the aim of renovating the area.
The project, which has already been presented in several forums, aims to exploit and profit from the mining heritage, turning the abandoned area into a pole of development and creating a tourist infrastructure around it that will connect directly to Ponfeblino. It includes visits to the mine on foot and on the old train used by the miners, on a journey of up to 400 meters travel; also the launch of an electric train that will depart from the main route of Escandal and connect to another nearby mining operation, simulating the route taken by coal miners.
A cider and juice factory, an adventure zone with a zip line, mining cycle-rail and hiking trails, among other options; a restaurant with a mining theme, an area of cabins built in trees as a living solution and even a spa that will occupy the old boiler building of this emblematic mine of the Fabero-Sil basin . All this is included in the project designed to “revive our region for tourism, taking advantage of our industrial heritage,” say the promoters.
