Karina Inés Oñate Berrio, an 18-year-old girl, was killed by her stepfather with multiple stab wounds, in the early hours of this Sunday, September 10, in the neighborhood of La Mano de Dios, in the commune 10 of town of Riohacha, department of La Guajira.
According to initial reports, the crime happened around 1:10 am, while Karina was trying to help her mother, Karen Liceth Berrio Lara, 37, from a knife attack by Carlos José Polo Ortega, from 35 , who despite his intervention, was able to seriously injure the woman and kill the minor.
Some witnesses told the authorities that the situation happened while the couple and the young woman were chatting in a commercial establishment. First, screams and insults were heard between Karen Liceth and Carlos José, who later went from verbal to physical aggression, which led to a knife attack by this man to his partner.
The situation caused Karina Inés to intervene in the dispute, where she also received several stab wounds in the stomach. The two women were immediately taken to a healthcare center, where, unfortunately, the death of the young woman occurred, due to the severity of her injuries. While his mother is still torn between life and death.
The community informed the Police about what happened, causing the person responsible to be arrested in one of their patrols, while trying to escape from the crime scene.
Therefore, the man is subject to the disposition of justice, which will determine how many years he should remain deprived of liberty for the alleged feminicide of the young woman and the injuries caused to her mother.
