A YouTuber creates his own Nintendo Switch out of modular parts

Portable consoles have become fashionable and a wide range of these consoles can be found on the market. The most well-known include the Steam Deck and the ASUS RoG Ally, both “copies” of the Nintendo Switch. Well, yes, one YouTuber created his own portable console that is from modular type Come on, what is that? by pieces.

It’s quite common to build your own computer using the parts that best fit your budget and needs. We find a variety of options on the market. This also reaches other segments, such as laptops.

Framework Laptops is a company that offers us the opportunity to configure and assemble a laptop in parts. The concept is the same as desktop computers but has been carried over to laptops. This allows the user greater flexibility and the ability to upgrade equipment beyond SSD and RAM in the future.

Fully modular portable console

He YouTuber Pitstoptech had the idea to create his own portable console adapted to your needs. As far as we know, this is the first modular console ever created. The solution developed is based on a motherboard on which the is mounted Processor Intel Core i7-1260P created by Framework Laptops.

It means transferring the concept of modular solution to other computing segments. When we say “modular” we mean a process in which parts are easily updated or replaced. Extensive computer or welding knowledge is not required.

The goal of this process is to allow the user to easily repair the device or improve its performance without having to replace the entire device.

In this case, Pitstoptech wanted to take the concept beyond laptops and onto a portable console. Your solution is based on using the motherboard Processor Intel Core i7-1260P.

This processor has 4 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores, working at one Frequency up to 4.7GHz. Embed a map Intel Iris Xe graphics works at 1.4 GHz. Framework Laptops sells this board for $549.

The modular console, however, does removable controls with a mechanism similar to the joysticks of the Nintendo Switch. These controllers are transparent, a controller concept that is very reminiscent of the clone controllers of the first Sony consoles, which used to be transparent.

Another interesting aspect of the console is that it has a 7 inch touch screen. Allows connection to external displays via a USB-C port.

A more than interesting concept

This portable console is included 16GB DDR4 RAM memory and a 512GB M.2 SSD Capacity. Pitstoptech also notes that the console integrates one 55Wh battery and two front speakers.

Performance-wise, the graphics aren’t the best on the market, but Mafia: Definitive Edition runs without any issues. We must remember that Intel’s iGPUs are significantly inferior to those that AMD offers in its APUs.

The good thing about this console is that we can opt for other boards, such as one with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. This processor has an AMD Radeon 780M graphics card with 12 computing units and a frequency of 2.7 GHz. This graphics card features RDNA3 architecture.

Pitstoptech has emphasized that it intends to bring this kit to market shortly. In principle, it seems that all elements except the board are offered, with each user being able to choose the framework laptops solution they want.
