HanesBrands Inc., a world leader in everyday clothing brands, piloted an eye health brigade in partnership with the Wake Echo Global Ophthalmology Foundation, which is affiliated with Wake Forest Hospital in North Carolina, and Hospital del Ojo For the benefit of 195 people, including the Club de León Fraternidad de San Pedro Sula, associates and their families.
Alma Arino, manager of corporate social responsibility at Haines, said ophthalmic surgeries were performed during the day, mostly for cataracts, although corneal transplants were also performed in collaboration with a specialized medical team from the Wake Echo Global Ophthalmology Foundation.
The activity was supported by dozens of Honduran volunteers from Hanes, both in the health sector and in logistics.
As part of its sustainability program, HanesBrands has committed to helping improve the lives of 10 million people through employee initiatives and philanthropic efforts by 2030. The company says it has reached 1.4 million people in the first year since launching the 2030 goals.
