Anurag Kashyap on Gadar 2 and OMG 2 Film: Naseeruddin Shah’s statement regarding ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story’ as propaganda has angered people by venting their anger on ‘Gadar 2’. Naseeruddin Shah is upset that the films he saw as conspiracies against Muslims are very popular. Now, an experienced director’s candid statements about “Gadar 2” and “OMG 2” are making headlines.
New Delhi: While Naseeruddin Shah’s statement on ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Gadar 2’ is being criticized, a veteran director is very impressed with Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’. He considers Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and ‘Gadar 2’ as good examples of responsible filmmaking in an adverse environment.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Anurag Kashyap said about ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ that both could have fallen into the realm of propaganda films but that didn’t happen. He says: “The biggest films in theaters today are Gadar 2 and Oh My God 2.” Depending on the mood in the country at that time, the filmmaker could have easily turned it into propaganda and counter-propaganda.
Anurag Kashyap praises ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ and further says that this is responsible filmmaking in mainstream cinema. There was no noise anywhere, no voice was heard anywhere. There was no unnecessary controversy. These are good films for the audience. The filmmaker did not become opportunistic for his own gain. According to a Sacnilk report, ‘OMG 2’, made for Rs 60 crore, has grossed Rs 220.5 crore at the global box office, while the collection of ‘Gadar 2’ has crossed Rs 500 crore and is still grossing.
Anurag Kashyap also spoke about the National Award wins of Allu Arjun, who won the National Film Award for Best Actor for ‘Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1’, while Vicky Kaushal also did a great job in ‘Sardar Udham’. The director said, “Awards are more about the jury than the actor.” The same is true that Vicky Kaushal won the National Award for the ad film “Uri” despite giving a more serious performance.
Anurag Kashyap finally says, “Allu Arjun’s performance wasn’t bad.” It was the best performance of the year. You can’t reject mainstream performance because of serious performance. I think mainstream gigs are sometimes very difficult.
