This is not the first person to do so. Samsung has already banned the use of ChatGPT in its chip factories, JPMorgan has limited its use and Walmart has warned its employees to be careful what they put out there. Now Apple has joined that trend and according to The Wall Street Journal has restricted access to this platform among its employees.
chatgpt, you gossip. According to the newsletter, Apple is concerned about the possibility that ChatGPT and its competitors could leak confidential data. This kind of problem exists, and companies that have tried and used this AI model have found that ChatGPT doesn’t know how to keep a secret. Considering that Apple has an absolute secrecy about its products and services, this measure is logical.
Why is he so inconsiderate? When people use these models, the system collects data that reaches the servers and developers so they can improve the service. The problem is that this implies that users may end up sharing sensitive, personal or confidential data that ends up where they shouldn’t.
Even OpenAI recognizes this. The company itself had to disable access to ChatGTP a few weeks ago when it was discovered that a bug allowed users to view other people’s conversation history on their profiles. An important new feature was actually introduced to the service last month: the ability to disable conversation history to prevent models from training.
The co-pilot was also banned. Those leaks can be not only sensitive data, but also something equally sensitive: the code of your applications and services. Apple has also actually restricted the use of Microsoft’s programming assistant, GitHub Copilot, according to a document that WSJ had access to.
It is already possible to use ChatGPT on iPhones. And before this announcement, interestingly, the official and native application of ChatGPT for iOS has just been announced. At the moment it can only be used in the US, but it is an important release considering that many copycats were appearing, some of them fraudulent.
Voice and gestures take center stage on the iPhone. It is possible to use ChatGPT on the iPhone in Spain, although as our colleagues at Applesfera, who have already been able to try it, explain, the process is somewhat cumbersome. The use of the tool is similar to what we can do on the web, but it also has an interesting option: “chatting” by voice with ChatGPT. We can also use gestures: for example, if we slide the text input field from left to right, we will immediately create a new chat.
Apple produces its own ChatGPT. Sources close to the company also indicate that Apple is working on its LL.M. and developing its own technology. The Cupertino company has been working in this area in principle for years, but its progress has been modest so far. These days, yes, it introduced the ‘Personal Voice’ feature, which used machine learning to improve the accessibility options.
