New Delhi: After a lot of speculation, the statement of Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute, Pune, who built Kovishield, has come out. On Monday, Adar issued a statement saying, “I want to bring some things to you as my statements are being misinterpreted.”
First of all, I want to say that vaccine manufacturing is a special process. Therefore, it is not possible to increase its construction overnight. We will also have to understand that India has a very large population and that it is not easy to build adequate doses for all adults. Even advanced countries and companies are struggling in terms of low population.
Secondly, we have been working with the Central Government since April last year. The government has given us all kinds of support during this period. Whether it is scientific or related to financial or rules. Till date, we have received orders for 26 crore doses. In return, we have given more than 150 million doses.
With this, we have received an advance of Rs 1732.50 crore from the central government. This is in advance of the next 11 million doses. Which is scheduled to be given in the next few months. In the next few months, another 11 crore doses will be given to the state government and private hospitals in the second channel. Finally Adar said, we know that everyone needs a vaccine as soon as possible. This is our desire as well and for this we are working day and night.
