AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker recalls Tony Khan’s reaction when her partner Adam Cole appeared in the crowd during a WarGames match in 2019.

During the 2019 edition of NXT Takeover: WarGames, Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era face off against the team of Tommaso Ciampa, Dominic Dijakovic, Keith Lee, and the surprising entrant Kevin Owens. The brutal match took its toll on Cole, and Britt Baker could be seen in the crowd with a visceral reaction as his teammate launched an air raid out of the cage and through two tables.

At first but did not want to cause conflict.

“I had asked both Tony Khan and the Bucks. I said, ‘This is a really great match for him,’ and I went to every acquisition—people didn’t know who I was until that point—and I said, ‘Is it okay if I go? If not, that’s all right, I don’t mind.’ And Tony said, “Brit, you’ve been to every single Adam’s match, why don’t you go now because you signed on to this company? You can go—please go.” So it was really nice to have his blessings.

Britt Baker felt that she might get in trouble after her image was used, but Tony Khan was really pleased with the way things were panned out.

“When they showed me to a crowd, I didn’t know—I didn’t know until I looked down at my phone and I had a thousand tweets, and I was trending and I said, ‘Oh my god, what What happened?” And I saw it and I immediately panicked—I thought I was going to be in trouble. And I wasn’t—it was the exact opposite.

“Tony was like, ‘Britt, that was great! An AEW wrestler was trending the night of the NXT pay-per-view.’ I was top google trends all night and it really worked in our favor so i don’t know if it was intentional or not – they said it wasn’t, i have no idea one way or the other – but on The end of the day was great.
