Star Wars closes a wound that has been open since the fifth season of The Clone Wars
Notice: This post contains spoilers for episodes 4 and 5 of Ahsoka, Star Wars series
she episode 1×04 of Ahsoka had a dramatic ending and kept a surprise that Star Wars fans have been waiting for years: the union of My son Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) and Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson). The teacher and the apprentice meet again in the World between worlds. And episode 1×05 reveals why he went there after being defeated by Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson).
Before starting, the World among Worlds It is a mysterious plane that connects all moments of time through portals, something like a temporal connection. This is not an unknown place for Star Wars fans, as we have already seen it in Rebels. It’s also important to remember that Anakin/Darth Vader redeemed himself by saving Luke and joining Obi-Wan and Yoda in the Force.
A trip to the far, far past: Ahsoka’s training
“I didn’t expect to see you so soon“, Anakin tells Ahsoka before the end of the previous chapter. The fifth begins exactly the same: Tano cannot believe what he sees and Anakin treats him with the affection of a friend, as he has done countless times. instances of The Clone Wars. And yes, he calls her “chulita” … an affectionate nickname from the animated series.
Ahsoka loses the fight against the Skoll and is between life and death. The World between Worlds offers you the possibility of choosing … and that means closing a wound open in the 10 years of the franchise: complete your jedi training. Let’s remember that the Padawan left the Jedi Order after being persecuted and betrayed by it because of the plot against him. It happened in episode 20 of Season 5 (June 9, 2013) of The Clone Wars, called: The Wrong Jedi.
Ahsoka never finished her training, so she’s not officially a Jedi yet. He is considered a “gray jedi”, but has never been officially recognized as a Jedi… although he is more talented than many of the jedi we have met.
Ahsoka: “I will not fight you.” act as sponsor: “I’ve heard that before” – Referring to the same phrase Obi-Wan Kenobi told him.
the Anakin Skywalker’s final lesson It is about the history of both, master and apprentice, and how their training is done. This brings him to two key moments from his past in the Clone Wars: a mission where he lost many soldiers under his command and the siege of Mandalore, two events we saw in The Clone Wars series.
Ahsoka is so awesome because she grew up and trained during the Clone Wars. He knew nothing else until he left the Jedi Order. His learning is amazing. He was trained by Anakin Skywalker like a soldier and taught him all the possible tools of LIVE. In addition, he trained with clone troopers (which is why he survived Order 66) and learned a lot from Captain Rex and other notables. Hence Ahsoka’s grief for the wounded soldier during the episode.
As scenes show the brutality and chaos of the Clone Wars, Ahsoka finally reveals her greatest trauma: she’s scared follow in your teacher’s footsteps, who became Darth Vader. “If I were all you…“The Padawan was joking.” You have learned nothing said the teacher.
Anakin’s last lesson was bright, full of wisdom and insight so far…but turned dark and cruel after the last words. The master takes the form of the Sith seen in Mustafar (Revenge of the Sith), his lightsaber turns red, his body / voice alternates between Anakin and Darth Vader, and he violently attacks Ahsoka.
In the end, Ahsoka was in charge disarm and put in check Anakin… but it didn’t kill him. Make your decision: “I choose to live“. The teacher ends the lesson, while he regains his original form, the smile and the kind tone: “You are not lost yet“. Another reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi, when he told him “you’re gone” after him “the Jedi are the enemy” during their fight in Mustafar.
Anakin lost, realized training is over of Ahsoka and thus closes a wound that we’ve seen bleed for 10 years of the franchise. Ahsoka has long lived traumatized by the fear of becoming the same as her master, the grief of his loss, and the betrayal of the Jedi Order. There is an imbalance within him.
The proof of the completion of his training is the most beautiful detail of the episode: Ahsoka’s clothes They change from a dull gray to a complete, even bright white. His mood improves, he appears happy, full of hope, balanced and safe. Now he’s like the incredible Jedi he once was.
