Airbnb guests reconsider hotels after complaining about excessive cleaning fees charged by host

Airbnb, the holiday rental company, was set up to enable homeowners and renters to earn extra money by renting a room or an entire apartment for a fraction of the price of a typical hotel.

However, guests are now complaining that the cleaning fees charged on Airbnb list have made it expensive and in some cases more expensive than hotels.

‘We need to stop Airbnb’

It all started when a Twitter user named Alexa shared a screenshot of the pricing details of an Airbnb listing, along with the caption “We need to stop airbnb.” The price was $ 198 for two nights, with a cleaning fee of $ 215.90.

Twitter Comments

The post immediately went viral with over 150,000 likes and thousands of retweets. The tweet also garnered hundreds of comments with many other users complaining about the cleaning fees charged by their host.

“If there’s a cleaning fee of more than $ 25, the host has to show receipts. ” tweeted a user.

“Places charge $ 100 cleaning fees and ask you to vacuum, start a load of towels / sheets, wash all the dishes, etc. As you provide to airbnb, except to take away a house for someone else , ” wrote another. “Once a woman asked me for $ 150 because I left a dirty spoon in the sink.” mean another.

Meanwhile, other Twitter users have criticized the holiday rental company for offering deals that are more expensive than a hotel room. “Crazy. I travel a LOT and have not stayed in an AirBnB for years. The value is gone. Hotels> AirBnB,”wrote a user.

‘The whole point of airbnb was that it was the cheaper option instead of paying loads for hotels etc. … stayed 4 days in Paris in 2015 in an amazing apartment overlooking the Eiffel Tower for € 300 .. they are carried away, ” tweeted someone else.
