One of the largest and most successful Spanish manufacturers of masks, born in the heat of the coronavirus crisis, Airnatec wants to ensure its future beyond the product for which it was born.
The company, which in a matter of months has managed to set up one of the largest FFP2 factories in Europe with its patent, has just launched a new line of food supplements and already has an innovative sports fabric. Working on other lines of products. Health
“As an integrated company we aim to generate an income model that is more stable, based on security and well-being,” explains Javier Lorens, CEO and one of the founders of the company based in Castellón. Although Airnatech continues to strengthen its mask business, especially for exports to Europe, the reality is that demand has dropped by about 80% compared to the last big wave of infections at the beginning of last year.
“Masks are a product that will continue to be essential, as was the case in China, but we are looking for a stable market in the face of an accordion effect with different ripples,” explains Lorence. Castellón’s company managed a bill of around 8.6 million euros in 2021 with a net profit of 1.2 million in just one year. Its 10,000 square meter factory, which employed 400 workers at the time of peak production due to Covid, also plans to launch new models of masks aimed at the industrial sector, taking advantage of its experience.
Despite what happened during the pandemic and supply problems, the import of Asian products continues in a big way. “It is very difficult to enter tenders when manufactured with European conditions and quality,” admits Lorens, who in spite of everything assures that although a good part of the production is now frozen, in case of contagion again Its lines are maintained. ,
From the beginning, the six entrepreneurs who make up Airnatech in 2020 have launched 24 production lines and a factory with a capacity to produce 24 million FPP2 masks and another 4 million surgical masks per month. With 150 different protectors designed, one of their priorities has been to use recyclable and sustainable materials.
new product lines
The first way to diversify its business beyond masks is to launch five nutritional supplement and vitamin products, primarily aimed at athletes and immune system strengtheners. For this, Airnatech will leverage the experience it has gained in selling its masks online. “The first step will be through the Internet because it’s something we can control day-to-day and test to meet demand,” says Lorens. With this greater knowledge of the market, the firm plans to expand this range of accessories.
Besides this, Airnatech is already planning to jump into another business related to health and sports. “We have created elastic bandages with nanotechnology that improve recovery from illnesses in the second quarter of the year,” says Lawrence. The company is in the process of preparing the production machinery for its launch in the second quarter of the year.
