Actor Akshay Kumar has answered the question of joining politics. The actor was speaking at the book launch of Hinduja and Bollywood organized at the Institute of Directors in Pal Mall, London. When asked questions, the actor denied joining politics, saying that he is “very happy” to do films. Akshay started his career with Saugandh in 1991, but his first commercial success came with the action thriller Khiladi (1992), which led to the Khiladi film series. He has acted in nearly 100 films in his career spanning more than three decades. He has also won several awards including the National Film Award. He was last seen in the historical drama Samrat Prithviraj, which released theatrically on 3 June. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film also stars Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar.
According to news agency PTI, when asked about joining politics in the programme, Akshay said that he tries to work his way through cinema. “I am very happy making films… As an actor, I try my best to raise social issues. I have produced 150 films, the one that is closest to my heart is Raksha Bandhan. I sometimes produce commercial films with social issues. I produce three-four films a year.” Akshay, who was the chief guest at the event, said. As per reports, Raksha Bandhan directed by Aanand L Rai is his latest effort.
This is not the first time that Akshay has answered the question of joining politics. Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Delhi in 2019, Akshay had replied, “Never, I want to be happy. I love movies and I contribute to my country through my films. this is my work.”
Akshay has several films in the pipeline including Raksha Bandhan, which is slated to hit the screens on August 11. The film also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Saadia Khatib, Sahajmin Kaur, Deepika Khanna and Smriti Shrikant. He also has a selfie of Raj Mehta with Nushrat Bharucha and Diana Penty in the pipeline. Akshay will also be seen in Abhishek Sharma’s Ram Setu alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Nusrat.
