The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation has decided to suspend the senator of the Historic Pact, Alex Florez, for 8 months, due to the more embarrassing events that occurred in Cartagena in September 2022.
Florez attacked three Nationalist politicians outside a hotel in the city, accusing them of participating in the murder of three young men from Chochó, Sucre.
The order from the Public Ministry came after a formal investigation was opened against Congress, during which the collection of evidence and inspections of public and private affairs were requested to determine whether Florez had committed a disciplinary offense.
In this process, the senator was also accused of abusing public goods while staying in Cartagena, where the first unfortunate event occurred when he was in alcoholism.
Regarding his sanction, Florez said in the hearing that he will accept the time that Prosecutor Cabello decides and that he will use it for the voluntary service of the National Police.
“He accepted the responsibility for the actions that were put into me. They were something that never happened, that is not an example of the Congress of the Republic. He accepted the sanction, because I deserved it, that no one should be an example above the law of the country. We want to repeat the request for forgiveness to the National Police”, to repeat.

On September 2, 2022, the senator of the Historical Federation, Alex Florez, sat on a narrow stage outside a prestigious hotel in Cartagena, where he arrived in the company of a young woman whose work he had hired that night.
In the images, which were publicly known and have been subject to endless criticism, the congressman was seen in an apparent drunken state in front of the hotel, where his companion appears to have been prevented from entering. Immediately afterwards, Florez flew into a rage and beat the three police officers who were killed.
Insults and attacks on the senator in the swamps, whom he also called “murderers”, because of the murder of three young men who had been in the city of Chochó, Sucre, months before.
Days later, before public opinion, Florez said he had a serious alcohol problem and apologized to the police for the controversial attacks. Yet this was not enough for him to be deprived of the dignity of training as a senator.
