After Thursday’s victory against Junior, América was already in the classics of this Sunday’s duel against Deportivo Cali on the 10th day of the Colombian league.
The Reds will arrive as tournament leaders with 19 points and headed to the Valle del Cauca derby.
Coach Alexandre Guimaraes is already working to develop a plan that will present itself at home to Verdiblanca, a mission where he could not score points with the captain of the red bench.
“We still haven’t been able to score there. I hope that Sunday will be an exception, although we know that we have to do it with the same trend to continue the last two games,” Guimaraes said in statements published this Friday.
The Clasico will be especially special for Deportivo Cali, which is mired in a crisis of results. It is last in the League and close to the direct relegation zone.
“We know that it’s a classic, it’s a match to score and it’s our job. Everything that’s around is not important to us because it’s a rival count and stories,” Alexandre said.
One of the concerns that America has in the run up to today’s game on Sunday is the medical condition of Carlos Darwin Conception and Andrés Sarmiento, who left in trouble in the duel against Junior.
“The most important thing in the coaching staff will be the conversation that we will have on Sunday morning with the doctor and the players who will be available to play that they have presented. This Friday we will see how these two players arrive carefully and we will take it at a reasonable time,” explained DT.
One of the conditions that América must correct during the visit of Palmases is not having players sent into the game. Already last year the red cards were affected, even last year América took the victory with nine men.
“We cannot give paayas, nor give any advantage. Playing a classic with ten men or nine, it is somewhat complicated,” said Guimaraes.
Since we are in the middle of the Round Robin period of the championship, América enjoys the peace of mind of having 19 points and having the last tournaments in comparison, 11 units from its classification to the last home run.
“There’s always a magic number, in my opinion it’s 30 points. You have to take into account the goal of the difference. It’s time to think about reclassification,” said the red leader.
