Amadeus Reveals 2022 Travel Trends

As the pandemic subsides, new trends are emerging. There has been a lot of speculation about how travel will come about, but now there is data from travel technology company Amadeus to corroborate those suspicions.

“As the tourism sector recovers, we are seeing some truly exciting trends emerging that will shape the industry,” said Dan Batchelor, Amadeus vice president of global corporate communications and social responsibility. – Imagine a world in which you end up watching an amazing Netflix series and your smart speaker will immediately recommend a trip to visit these places in real life. This technology is available now. New industry technologies are not only exciting, but also empowering us to travel sustainably, revolutionizing the way we travel for business, and traveling long distances in no time. Supersonic flights will take place nearly two decades after Concorde last dropped its nose. This is an incredibly exciting time for the industry. “

Amadeus 2022 Travel Trends research has identified six new developments that are shaping the future of the travel market.

According to Amadeus, travelers seek to “enjoy the present,” a journey of a lifetime. Popular destinations such as Machu Picchu tend to increase the number of flights to the Peruvian cities of Lima and Cuzco by almost 50 percent.

Travelers also want to use Friendcation services. After a couple of years of separation, 2022 will be all about reunion trips big and small. According to Amadeus Demand360 (R), group orders have increased 83% since last fall.

Active ecotourism is another trend that has emerged since the pandemic. According to Amadeus, travelers are motivated to take action as the demand for travel grows in support of diverse global communities.

Thirty-seven percent of respondents said that the opportunity for travelers to participate in the conservation of travel destinations will help the industry become more sustainable in the long term.

Business travel is poised to return in 2022 with new technologies that will pave the way for free mobile payments. 72% of business travelers want to travel next year.

Amadeus has also identified “Wanderlust Streaming” as a new trend among travelers who want to visit places based on their browsing habits. For example, Amadeus found tourism in Portguarre, Cornwall, increased 50 percent, according to Visit Cornwall, as a result of the Poldark TV show.

The future of travel is also about futurism. High-tech and lightning-fast travel options such as supersonic flight and Hyperloop technologies are of particular interest.
