American multinational e-commerce company Amazon plans to open its La Muela logistics center before the end of the year with the goal of meeting the annual sales peak, which begins with ‘Black Friday’, continues through Christmas and ends with sales. This warehouse is the one that can do the most work of the four that the company has in Zaragoza and its surroundings, because it is expected that there will be about 1,500 workers, a third more than the staff that will have in the large central plaza warehouse. when at full capacity.
Three weeks ago, the La Muela City Council granted the license to start the activity of Amazon Road Transport Spain the company in which it runs national logistics centers, after verifying compliance with the requirements announced by a series of deficiencies detected in the emergency lighting.
The new municipal review was carried out a few days ago and it passed without problems, so now all that remains is for the multinational to launch the facilities in phases as it does with its other warehouses.
Sources involved in the project explained that The interior fitting was completed before the summer with the final finishing touches to all the subcontracting companies involved.. All that remains is the installation of the Amazon sign on the façade, which the company has left until the last minute because it does not yet have its official existence, let alone the opening of media plans.
However, The logistics center can now be seen on Google Maps and on the company’s official website with the technical nomenclature, ZAZ8., and with a detailed description of the tasks in which it will specialize, that of a ‘half-mile’ center, where it refers to now. “There we receive customer orders, classify them at the final destination and prepare them to guarantee the fastest delivery,” Amazon Jobs shows on its job portal.
This type of warehouse specializes in receiving supplies from suppliers and their central complexes to prepare customer orders for distribution through logistics stations, such as one that opens in the fall of 2021 at the Plaza.
The processing of the license to start the activity started last May, but it was extended due to the need to correct the aforementioned deficiencies in the emergency lights. To obtain consent, the company must also provide mandatory communication to the workforce.
The complex occupies 141,836 square meters at the eastern end of the Centrovía industrial estate. where a 35,420 square meter parcel sorting plant has been built and where 1,452 people will work in triple shifts if the predictions seen in the project processed during the period before the administrations involved are fulfilled.
A year of waiting
The Valencian company Itercon completed the works a year ago, but a slowdown in online sales led the company to suspend its immediate commissioning.. The decision was made despite investing more than 18 million in the logistics warehouse. This same strategy was decided in the case of the large European-scale warehouse in the Plaza, with a size of 60,396 m2, which will open in the summer of 2022 and it was completed at the beginning of last spring after investing a large amount , 175 million. , to convert it into one of its most innovative technology centers.
Although it has not yet been released, The company uses waiting to test the operation of the installed equipment. Any driver who passes the highway in Madrid can confirm that there are always cars parked on the esplanade prepared for this purpose in front of the warehouse and the attached offices and that there is light inside at night.
