The Ministry of Environment, which depends on the Ministry of Coordination, organized the first conference on the carbon footprint, where the subject is recovered. They exchange knowledge and experience on different strategies to combat climate change through measurement, reduction and compensation of greenhouse gas emissions in different productive activities.
The event was opened by the Secretary of the Environment, Juan Carlos Scotto, who highlighted the main achievements of Sustainable Action Program an initiative in the environmental record, which promotes the circular economy and accompanies producers and different industrial sectors in the province in the implementation of good environmental and energy practices.
During the meeting, the results of a pilot test of the calculation of the carbon footprint of four companies participating in the Sustainable Action Program: Punta del Agua SA, Alican SA, Indusplast Piscinas SRL and Rubol SAICF.
In this sense, Scotto maintained: “We decided to promote this action on the basis that what is not measured cannot be improved”.
And I added: “In addition to knowing their environmental impact, calculating the carbon footprint allows companies identify investment opportunities, minimize costs, increase energy efficiency and improve corporate image because it allows us to distinguish ourselves as a responsible brand with care for the environment“.
The pilot test was in charge of environmental managers Marcos Cena and Juan Martín Lemos, who presented the results obtained and different possible strategies to reduce and compensate the impact produced.
The event took place in the Situation Room of the Civic Center of the Government of Cordoba, and gathered companies and managers participating in the Sustainable Action Program, interested in measuring the carbon footprint produced by the activities of the productive sector.

Marcia Pía González, representative of IRAM Mediterráneo, spoke in relation to the certification and verification of the environmental footprint.
Rodolfo Bongiovanni and Leticia Tuninetti, members of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) respectively, presented success stories in the analysis and diagnosis of product sustainability.
Teresa Cañete, Business Development Manager at Carbon Neutral +, shared the details of the platform they developed to measure, reduce, and offset the greenhouse gas emissions produced by their companies.
While Macarena Cervera, project coordinator at the company HINS Energía, focuses on the carbon footprint as a fundamental tool for building an organizational sustainability strategy.
Juan Pedro Cano, general coordinator of the National Forest Carbon Board, addressed the issue of the carbon market in Argentina and internationally.
Finally, Luis Molinari, from the Ministry of Public Services, was present, who spoke about the operation of the auctions of carbon certificates moved, and presented the results of the experiment that this agency led in February of this year.
