Aviación Digital, Sp. The US Air Force has announced a call for a new engineering and manufacturing development contract for the Next Generation Air Domain Platform (NGAD) with the intention of awarding it in 2024.
Farewell to the F-22
“The NGAD platform is an important element of a family of air domain systems that represent a generational leap in technology from the F-22, which it will replace,” said Frank Kendall, Secretary of the Air Force. “The NGAD will include enhanced firepower and the ability to survive, sustain, interoperate and adapt in the airspace, all in a highly competitive operating environment. No one does it better than the United States Air Force, but we’ll lose that advantage if we don’t move now.”
This call formally begins the source selection process, providing industry with the requirements the DAF anticipates for the NGAD, as a future replacement for the F-22 Raptor.
Advantage over its predecessor
The NGAD acquisition strategy will strengthen and expand the industrial base to deliver rapid and innovative combat capability.
The strategy incorporates lessons learned from recent Air Force acquisition programs and will leverage open architecture standards. This approach will enable the government to maximize competition throughout its life cycle, provide a wider and more responsive industry base, and dramatically reduce maintenance and sustainable costs.
The NGAD platform is one of several critical combat capabilities that will enable counter-air missions with the ability to engage air and ground threats to achieve air superiority and support the joint force.
