WILSON, NC ( Associated Press) – A pickup truck crashed into a fast-food restaurant in North Carolina on Sunday, killing two brothers, police said.
The accident happened around 9:45 a.m. at Hardy’s restaurant in downtown Wilson, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) east of the state capital, Raleigh.
According to a police statement, a Lincoln Aviator pickup truck collided with brothers Christopher and Clay Ruffin, aged 58 and 62, respectively. Christopher Ruffin was pronounced dead on the spot, while his brother died at the ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
Footage from the scene showed a silver pickup truck seen colliding with front windows, coming to a stop inside the dining area, over broken glass and window frames.
Police Sergeant Eric McInerney said another client received care from emergency medical personnel, but did not require hospitalization.
Police said the driver Wilson was 78-year-old Jesse Lawrence, who was treated at Wilson Medical Center and released. The investigation is ongoing, but police said they do not believe the cause of the accident was linked to medical issues or any kind of disability.
