Foreign K-pop fans have shown great interest in “chapaguri”, a mixture of chapaghetti, instant black bean noodles and neoguri, spicy udon-like noodles, which was featured in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” (2019).
Samyang Foods’ Hot Spicy Chicken Noodles, or Buldakbokemyeon, have been extremely popular in Southeast Asia for years.
Recently, the demand for Korean instant noodles has increased in the Middle East as well.
The global demand for Ramayan in the form of emergency meals and quick meals also increased with the pandemic as people stayed at home for longer.
Total global sales of Korean instant noodles are much larger than export figures because Korean food companies also sell ramen produced from their overseas factories.
“The export volume of rameone made in Korea is similar to sales volume of rameone produced at our factories in China and the US,” said an official at Nongshim, Korea’s largest instant noodle and snack company.
