In a message sent via video in connection with the celebration of the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to be held in Buenos Aires, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked the participants to reflect on the behavior of President Pedro requested to decline. Castillo – “It was a slander” – and the way the Peruvian people are being oppressed.
In the video, López Obrador says that “we must not leave alone the fraternal people of Peru, we must jointly sign a statement demanding an end to repression; That dialogue must be opened so that it is the people who decide Peru’s destiny in a democracy, that is, in fair and free elections. Totalitarianism and not freedom for Pedro Castillo because he was unjustly imprisoned.
During his message, he reaffirmed the importance of integration across the continent, but he also did not leave out the recent riots in Brazil. He opened a space and expressed his support for Brazilian President Luís Inágio Lula da Silva: “To reiterate our solidarity with Lula, with the Brazilian people who freely chose to elect their president. We Cannot accept attempts, much less a military or technical coup. Freedom and authentic democracy must be respected, it is the people who rule in a democracy. Not an oligarchy”.
López Obrador recalled the approach he recently made with United States President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to advance the integration of the continent. He recalled that the European Union began as the European Economic Community. Stating that Mexico’s position would be determined by the foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, he said that “we want unity, integration, the dream of our liberator, Bolivar, but not only unity, union, closer ties between Latin America and the Caribbean”. Rather the entire American continent, I just expressed that in Trudeau and Biden’s visit”.
He stressed that what unites us is much more than what divides the countries of the region, as the common good is sought among people regardless of political or ideological differences. Mexico has done the same with Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso or Paraguayan President Mario Abdo.
In that context, he opened a new space to point out that “we will not forget that when the mission to bring Evo (Morales) to Mexico the airspace was closed and all airspace was closed, An action embarrassing to the governments of Bolivia’s neighboring countries, allowing a Mexican Air Force plane to land in Paraguay to load fuel, it was a sovereign decision that it will not forget, so we have to seek unity.
He announced that CELAC would support the agreements that are promoted within Mexico, “We will support whatever you agree to, we support the CELAC proposal, I can tell you in advance, because There is much that unites us that can tear us apart”.
