Miami A man in Florida, United States of America, who after throwing ice cream in his car in 2010, wanted to take justice into his own hands and ended up accused of killing two Latino brothers, was sentenced to life in prison this Friday.
Michael Keetley, 51, Hillsborough County, West Florida. was convicted of six counts, each carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years; for which he will serve life in prison without the possibility of words.10 Tampa Bay picked up the tank.
After a mistrial in 2020, a jury found Keetley guilty in 2023 of two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of brothers Sergio and Johannes Guitron, and four counts of attempted murder of Daniel Beltrán, Gonzalo Guevara, Ramón Galan and Richard Cantu.
A double crime occurred in Ruskin City, in the aforementioned county, when Michael Keetley was shot by two masked men while working at an ice cream truck.
The attack provoked such a thirst for revenge in Keetley that, after Thanksgiving 2010, he shot six people in a house robbery, killing two of them, the brothers Sergio and Juan Guitrón.
The defendant, who spent more than 12 years in prison, has always maintained that he is innocent of the charges against him and that he was not the perpetrator of the shooting at Ruskin’s home.
Keetley was mugged and while driving an ice cream truck and was shot five times by two masked men who made off with $12 worth of loot.
As a result of the shooting, Keetley suffered a permanent disability.
According to police investigations None of the six men had anything to do with the ice cream lorry.
One of the prosecutors in charge of the case showed in the first trial that Keetly came to his house wearing black jackets, a shirt with the word “sheriff” (translated to bail) and looking for someone called “Creeper”.
He was telling the Latins that they had celebrated Thanksgiving the night before, and thinking that he was going to do something, they tried to show themselves, but he did not delay and began to go through the arrows one by one.
“He wanted to win,” the prosecutor confirmed.
