Andrew Garfield says he was told he was not handsome enough to star in Narnia

Andrew Garfield may be one of the most sought-after Hollywood stars these days, but even he has had several professional setbacks on his way to the top.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor recently recalled that he had been walked around to star in 2008’s The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and was told it had something to do with his looks.

After hearing about the dismissive attitude towards casting, Garfield said that he demanded an explanation from his agent. “In the end, she just broke because of my incessant whining,” he explained, “and said,“ It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew. ”

Garfield is now experiencing a career renaissance. On Sunday, he received a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role as composer Jonathan Larson on the Netflix series Tick, Tick … BOOM! And while he initially denied involvement in Spider-Man: No Home, he and Tobey Maguire are reprising their roles in the Marvel blockbuster, which premiered in theaters last month.

And Garfield has no grudge against Barnes. Describing the Shadow and Bones actor as “a very handsome and talented man,” he said, “In retrospect, I was not unhappy with this decision and I think he did a great job.”
