Colombians Angie Valdez and Yeni Arias won the silver medal in the World Cup Women’s Championship in New Delhi (India), losing this Sunday in the finals of their respective divisions.
Barranquilla Valdez fell in the 60 kilograms against Beatrix Ferreira of Brazil by a 5-0 decision, placing her number one in her division.
Ferreira dominated the three rounds of the fight with his strategy of constant mobility and speed of combinations. This was complicated by Valdez, who could not clearly connect with his opponent.
This is Ferreira’s second win over Valdez. The Brazilian already beat the Colombian last year in the final of the Rio de Janeiro Grand Prix, in a local decision.
22. Angie Valdez reached the final after victories over Yi-Shih Wu (Taipei), Estelle Moseely (France), Aenean (India) and Wenlu Yang (China). The other from Taipei was ranked second in the division and Moesely was the Olympic champion at the Rio de Janeiro Games (2016).
The Barranquilla woman, a member of Indeportor Atlántico’s sponsored athletic program, recently won gold in the Bolivarian Games in Valledupar (2022) and the American Games in Asunción (2022). She was also crowned national champion in Chiriguaná (Cesaar) in 2021.
Yeni Arias also lost a 5-0 decision to Wen-Hsiao Huang (Taipei), in a fight in the 54-kilogram division.
The Asian boxer asserted his superior stature over Columbia, whom he kept at bay with a punch in three rounds.
Yeni Arias advanced to the final after beating Nikolina Cacic (Croatia), Iulia Coroli (Moldova), Zhaina Shekerbekova (Kazakhstan) and Enkhjargal Munguntsetseg (Mongolia).
Risaraldense adds the silver medal of this World Cup to him, which adds gold at the Bolivarian Games in Valledupar (2022), silver at the American Games in Asunción (2022) and the Olympic diploma at the Tokyo Games (2021).
Colombia also won a bronze medal with Camila Camilo (63 kg) and Valencia (50 kg).
