Another Chinese car brand is coming to Mexico: GWM

Mexico City.- The Chinese vehicle brand Great Wall Motors (GWM) has formalized its arrival on the Mexican market, where other companies of the Asian giant such as MG, BYD, SAIC and Chirey from Chery already operate.

First, GWM offers the Haval H6 HEV hybrid SUV, which is considered a flagship product in China as it has been the best-selling product there for 11 years.

In addition to Haval, GWM will gradually bring vehicles from the sub-brands Poer (pickups), Wey (luxury), Tank (off-road vehicles) and Ora (electric) to the national market in the coming months.

During the brand’s presentation, Pedro Albarrán, General Director of GWM, reported that 80 percent of the products launched in Mexico will be electric vehicles, hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

A product is brought onto the market in Mexico every month and a half, emphasized Albarrán.

The brand is present in 170 countries and regions with 12 million users and sees Mexico as a turning point for positioning in Latin America.

“Mexico is one of the important strategic markets for Great Wall Motors to expand its presence in Latin America and advance globally,” said James Yang, president of GWM’s Latin American market.

Yang mentioned that the global market for renewable energy vehicles has developed rapidly, growing from 2 million units in 2018 to 10 million in 2022.

GWM expects to have a network of at least 40 distributors in 27 states across the country by the end of this year.

Chinese brands are increasingly conquering the Mexican market.

For example, in the first eight months of the year, MG accounted for 4 percent of total vehicle sales recorded nationwide, making it one of the top 10 best sellers during that period, according to the Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA).
