After not counting anything at Manchester United: two minutes in the entire first round of the Premier League, Donny Van de Beek received a loan arrival to Eintracht Frankfurt as the restart. A starting point in leaving behind the exclusions and injuries since signing for the Red Devils, but now the Dutchman has suffered another major disappointment.
Bild indicates that the Frankfurt team have left Van de Beek off their list for the Europa League. Teams had until 2 February to send new entrants and changes to UEFA in order to restart the tournament in life or death qualifiers. Eintracht will play in the round of 32 of the Conference League against Union Saint-Gilloise and will do so without Van de Beek as the Germans have not registered him.
Dino Topmöller’s team has made four arrivals on the market this winter: Hugo Ekitié (PSG); Sasa Kalajdzic (Wolves), Jean-Matteo Bahoya (Angers) and the aforementioned Van de Beek. Which has already put some newcomers in check, as you can only make three registrations until you reach the maximum of 25 chips. But in addition, Bild indicates that left-back Philippe Max, who was not registered in September, has now been discharged, so Bahoya and Van de Beek have been sacrificed. A fresh blow for the former Ajax player, who will only have Bundesliga matches to show for it.
Van de Beek started all three of Eintracht’s games after landing in Germany, and performed at a high level despite being inactive for so long. But he did not play a minute in Eintracht’s defeat to Cologne this Saturday, after being substituted at half-time against Mainz. A clear indication that Van de Beek will have to struggle a lot for minutes at Eintracht.
